Railyard development will deliver 217 affordable new homes in Cork’s docklands by the end of 2027Cork is poised to reclaim the title of hosting Ireland’s tallest habitable building. The residential complex will be the tallest building on the island, standing half a metre higher than the Obel Tower in Belfast (80m). Cork previously had the tallest residential building in the Republic with the Elysian Tower which was built in 2008 and stands at 71m. However, that title subsequently went to the College Square complex in Dublin, built in 2025 and which stands at 82.1m. Cork County Hall – which was built in 1968 and now ranks as a listed building – was Ireland’s tallest building for years, standing at 67m.
