Chris BergeronCorrespondentBOSTON - Like the afterglow from an exploding star eons ago, six monumental paintings by the artist known as Titian smolder with the primordial energy of ancient myths in a stunning exhibit at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Featuring just eight paintings in a single gallery, “Titian: Women, Myth & Power” offers a can't-miss chance to view a genius' end-of-life masterpieces and consider the profound questions they raise today about their subjects. Born Tiziano Vecellio in 1488, but known in English as Titian, he came to be considered the most important painter of the 16th-century Venetian school. After first appearing at the National Gallery in London, the exhibit moved to the Prado in Madrid and is now making its final and only American stop at the Gardner where it runs through Jan. 2, 2022. The museum has also commissioned two contemporary exhibits to respond to expected public reactions to the subjects of Titian's paintings.
