Whether you celebrate Christmas, something else or nothing at all, there is no better way, no better time of year, to see just how deeply entwined the U.S. and Chinese economies are than this most-commercial of Christian holidays. That is a percentage that has been decreasing as China continues to move from low- and mid-level manufacturing to higher-end production. Similar to sweaters would be leather shoes, the manufacturing of which is also on the move from China to other developing nations. This year, 20% of leather shoes come are coming from Vietnam and 10% from Italy, higher-end shoes to be sure. But, at this time of year in particular, in the season of gift-giving, it becomes just a little bit more clear.
