Our Special CorrespondentRabindra Sadan: Thalassaemia patients who live normal lives despite regular blood transfusions and medications spoke on Sunday to children recently diagnosed with the disease and their parents, dispelling myths and providing tips on fighting the condition. By then she had been diagnosed with thalassaemia and was needing blood transfusion. She told the listeners that she was married and running an NGO to spread awareness about thalassaemia and how it could be prevented. "A classmate from school and I organise health check-ups and tell people about the need to get blood tests for identifying thalassaemia carriers done before marriage. Those who are thalassaemia minor are carriers but don't need any treatment.
