Sir, Clare Foges is right that “the Church should be cherished, not mocked” (Dec 24), a sentiment reinforced by your leading article on faith. Whether or not you believe in Christianity, the Church embodies the important values of charity, fellowship and good works. As she writes, the Church provides a refuge for the isolated and the lonely. Ms Foges is to be applauded for writing an article that needed to be written.
