NEW DELHI: Time is fast running out to locate the missing AN-32 through signals from its emergency locator transmitter (ELT) or beacon fixed on the medium-lift transport aircraft's tail fin. "The transmissions or beeps are on three emergency frequencies, with aircraft and ships capable of picking up the first two (121.5 and 243.0 MHz). Sometimes, the ELTs fail to get activated during a crash. "The ELTs are being fitted on the AN-32s during the upgrade," said an official. The third frequency of 406 MHz is meant for satellites," said a pilot.
