(File)A Timaru wrestling coach accused of indecently assaulting an 11-year-old boy has abandoned his bid for name suppression. Peter Charles Berry, 56, was refused bail when he appeared before Judge Kevin Phillips in the Timaru District Court on Tuesday. Berry faces one charge of indecent assault on a boy under 12, two charges of indecent communication with a young person under 16, and unlawfully possessing a restricted firearm. The boy, who Berry met through the South Canterbury Olympic Wrestling Club, was allegedly molested between January 1 and April 1, 2019. Judge Phillips said his job was to protect a "very young boy who may or may not be infatuated with the defendant" from contact.
