EDITORIAL: South Canterbury is broken-hearted by the deaths of five teenage passengers in an overloaded car that crashed into a power pole near Timaru. Here we have the components of both heart-breaking tragedy and pure cliché. That is a stale question that cannot be separated from another: when will older people ever find a better way to teach? A rally planned for Friday comes with simultaneous encouragements to “tear up the road’’ but be safe, peaceful and responsible. It would be a wretched thing if young drivers were to repeat risks as if this was some sort of tribute.
