Timaru karatekas shine at SI JKA karate champs


Timaru's Taye Goodger, right, takes on Gillet Luague in the black belt final of the boys' kata at the JKA South Island karate championships in Timaru. Timaru competitors dominated the JKA South Island karate championships held in the town recently. A club spokesperson said it was a proud day for JKA New Zealand with members from all across New Zealand attending, including Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin. Karatekas displayed flair and artistry both in kata (structured practice for consistent movements) and kumite (sparring) events. The judging panel was made up of referees from across New Zealand.
