Foodbanks in Timaru are preparing for a busy winter even though demand is either down, or on a par, with 2020 at three outlets. Salvation Army spokesperson Louise Parry said while Timaru foodbank parcels were not in as much demand at the moment, an increase was anticipated as the colder weather approaches. “Our Timaru community ministries team is continuing to support the people of our community. Nationally the Salvation Army has 60 foodbanks and distributed 58,264 food parcels in 2020 through support from the Foodbank Project, Countdown’s food rescue programme, according to foodbank.org. Despite the decrease, in the past month the foodbank has distributed more than 60 food parcels to families and individuals.
