For most of his comedic career, 70-year-old Tim Allen has enjoyed poking fun at “brittle liberals,” as he once described them. “In [Hollywood] there is nothing more annoying than a well-educated character who is conservative,” Allen told Forbes magazine a few years ago. Allen’s fictional characters and real-life politics have annoyed and angered liberal-minded viewers who don’t see much of a difference between the two. I find both versions of Allen very funny, including his jokes regarding liberal viewpoints about our deeply divided country. I never thought of trying to separate the artist from his art as our society must do with other performers.
