Tigress rescued from deer poachers’ snare in Sundarbans after 24 hours


Photo : BSSKHULNA, Jan 4, 2025 (BSS) – A tigress trapped in a deer-hunting snare laid by poachers in the Sundarbans was rescued by the Forest Department this afternoon and taken to Khulna for treatment. The tigress was first tranquilised and then safely freed from the trap, Depon Chandra Das, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of the Chandpai Range under the East Sundarbans Division, said. Forest officials said that on Saturday at noon, officers and staff of the Chandpai Range of the East Sundarbans spotted the tigress caught in a snare in the Sorkar Khal area while on patrol. Officer-in-Charge of the Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Centre of the East Sundarbans, Howlader Azad Kabir, said the tigress was initially sedated using special measures. If it fully recovers, it will be released back into the Sundarbans, Azad Kabir added.
