SERI KEMBANGAN: The Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification, which confirms development of oil palm cultivation that balances the needs of 'People, Profits and Planet', will have tighter check-and-balance mechanisms to better reflect integrity. The MSPO is essentially a reflection of an unified code of laws concerning best practices throughout the supply chain, from oil palm planting to palm oil processing. The MSPO certification process is being tightened to reflect transparency at all levels and at all times," the minister said. He reiterated getting all oil palm planters in Malaysia MSPO-certified is tough but necessary for the long term prospects of the industry. Ultimately, the MSPO's objective is to facilitate better palm oil market access through multilateral or bilateral free trade agreements with buyers.
