Tight tussle between Labour and National candidates in Invercargill


Invercargill National Party candidate Penny Simmonds, left, at the Ascot Park Hotel with Invercargill mayor Sir Tim Shadbolt, Young Nat Sam White, and National MP for Invercargill Sarah Dowie. Among the supporters was Sarah Dowie, the National Party's Invercargill MP who did not run for re-election this year. Her supporters in the room, totalling about 100, included Invercargill mayor Sir Tim Shadbolt and his partner, Asha Dutt, as well as Eric Roy, a former National Party Invercargill MP. Invercargill Labour candidate Liz Craig was joined by a small gathering of about 30 Labour Party members at Club Southland in Invercargill about 8.30pm. Kavinda Herath/Stuff Te Tai Tonga Labour candidate Rino Tirikatene popped in to support Invercargill Labour candidate Liz Craig.
