South Canterbury's top police officer says his staff are targeting areas of high risk as latest figures show a significant jump in officer-issued speeding tickets. In comparison, corresponding figures showed 13,391 tickets issued by officers in 2018, 7616 in 2017, 10,007 in 2016 and 11,636 in 2015. Aoraki police district area commander Inspector Dave Gaskin told Stuff he was aware that officer issued speeding ticket numbers had increased. "We are getting staff to target areas of high risk on the roads and that includes speed, alcohol, seat belts and distractions." New data showed the number of fleeing drivers had increased, reflecting a Canterbury wide trend, Gaskin said.
