A line of severe thunderstorms that have the potential to whip tornadoes is moving onto the upper half of the North Island. MetService has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Northland, Auckland and Waikato until 4pm on Sunday. “Wind gusts of this strength can cause some structural damage, including trees and power lines, and may make driving hazardous. People in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and monitor for possible severe thunderstorm warnings.
