Devaraj and Ajitha were shot dead on November 24 inside a jungle near Karulai at Nilambur in Malappuram district. Luqman Pallikkandi, a resident of Aralam, alleged that the police personnel were taking photos of Adivasi women and children. Aruvikkal Krishnan from Wayanad too alleged that tribespeople were being portrayed as “extremists” and that they were scared of police. He alleged that certain media houses were spreading rumours about the event saying it would pose a security threat. “The communist government in the State denied permission to human rights activists to visit the site of death.
