For the third consecutive year, in what has become a new tradition, the Thunder invited some community leaders to have their own draft day while the team celebrated the newest members of the team. On Saturday, five community draft picks were honored prior to the organization’s introductory press conference for 2023 NBA Draft selections Cason Wallace and Keyontae Johnson at the historic First National Center in downtown Oklahoma City. The afternoon started with an opportunity to sit down with Thunder Head Coach Mark Daigneault and share the ways in which they serve the local community and also get some insight into how the Thunder encourages a spirit of charity inside its own walls. “These are people who make a difference in the community,” said the Thunder’s Vice President of Community Engagement Christine Berney. “It's been tremendous,” said Staley Jones, who was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the top 10 Black Higher Education CEOs to watch in 2023.
