Three-year deal with French board teachers provides $6M for special education

A three-year deal reached with teachers working for Ontario’s French boards includes more than $6 million for special education and also creates a working group to look at boosting the numbers of Francophone educators. Education Minister Stephen Lecce said he is pleased both the AEFO and school board associations have now approved the deal. Bargaining began last year with all teacher unions, who all engaged in job action, including daylong strikes. All teacher unions in Ontario have now hammered out three-year agreements, and the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario and the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association have already ratified theirs. The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation will wrap up its ratification votes by May 15.
