Three women held for smuggling cash

IPOH: Three businesswomen tried to smuggle in currencies worth about half a million ringgit but their body language gave them away. The women, including two Thai nationals, were found to have about RM500,000 in ringgit notes and Thai baht in their luggage while travelling in a car on Feb 7, said Perak Customs Department director Dr Mohamad Saprin. They were stopped at the Bukit Berapit Immigration, Customs and Quarantine Complex in Pengkalan Hulu at about 4.15pm that day. Mohamad said the women, aged between 40 and 51, were stopped by Customs officers as they were behaving oddly. Among others, Mohamad said they would probe where the women were headed to and whether it was their first smuggling attempt.
