KUALA LUMPUR: Enforcement on the three-point sealtbelt will be carried out in stages next year, said Road Transport Department (RTD) director-general Datuk Shaharuddin Khalid. He said although certain latest car models were equipped with the three-point sealtbelt , some however did not meet Sirim's (Scientific and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia) standards. He said the enforcement only applies on vehicles that are already equipped with the three-point sealtbelt as well as new vehicles. New Straits Times in its exclusive report today revealed that beginning next month, all manufacturers of passenger vehicles must install three-point seatbelts on all models. Shaharuddin said RTD will also beef up its enforcement on the use of seatbelts for front and rear passenger.
