Three daily wage earners were killed and five others were injured after a train hit an autorickshaw in Nilphamari Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning. The deceased are Romana Akter, 32, Sayra Begum, 33, and Shefali Begum, 34 – all of whom worked at Uttara Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in the area. The five injured are receiving treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital and two of them are in critical condition, Dr Abida, a doctor on duty, told Dhaka Tribune. The eight were going to the EPZ when the Chilahati-bound Simanta Express rammed into the autorickshaw they were on at an unmanned level crossing, killing three of them, according to police and the Fire Service. They might not have noticed the train due to low visibility caused by dense fog, said Nilphamari police station OC Abdur Rouf.
