"The saloon car driver died following the accident but the matatu driver survived and has been admitted at the hospital," he said. Malindi Sub County Hospital Medical Superintendent Evans Ogato said that 22 patients have been admitted while three were treated and discharged. "Two adults undergoing treatment and a child who had been admitted at Tawfique Hospital in Malindi have died and have been taken to Malindi Sub County Hospital mortuary for autopsy," he said. Mr Julius Lughanje, a driver with Mombasa- Malindi bound Munawar shuttle said he arrived at the scene and rescued some victims including the matatu driver David Macharia who was involved in the accident.
