A mysterious fire that broke out at a municipal site in Fourth Street, Welkom, has claimed the lives of three unidentified people. Loraine Earle, Free State police spokesperson, the building was destroyed in the fire during the early hours of Wednesday (03/05). The police have confirmed that it was a municipal storeroom where new water metres, plastic water pipes, and shelves with documents were kept. Vista understands that this was in fact an abandoned municipal building and the three deceased were homeless people seeking shelter. Vista has since asked the municipality if they are investigating the fire and the deaths, and what actions have been put in place to prevent this kind of incident at municipal buildings in future.
