A person is dead after their vehicle collided with a power pole on the Waimate Highway, Makikihi, about 4.15am on Sunday. Three people have lost their lives and another three have been seriously injured following multiple crashes throughout the South Island. One person died after crashing into a power pole in the Waimate district on Sunday morning. She said motorists heading south should turn right onto Lower Hook Rd then continue onto Waimate Hunter Rd, turn left onto Maytown Rd then through onto Upper Parsonage Rd. Police also attended two other serious crashes involving cars hitting power poles all within two hours of the Waimate crash.
