New Jersey, New York and Connecticut filed a federal lawsuit challenging the U.S. Treasury Department’s move to block the states’ attempted workaround of a key part of the 2017 federal tax law. The tax law, which was pushed by the Trump administration and congressional Republicans, placed a $10,000 cap on state and local tax deductions that people could claim on their federal tax filings.
