The politicians assuring people that they understand the issue of income inequality haven’t yet persuaded citizens that they are working on solutions. Just as the income gap is huge and daunting, so is the communications gap. The Brexit vote and Trump’s candidacy only underline the need to get to work on that communications gap right away. But I can understand why citizens have a hard time believing that politicians are doing anything to address income inequality, which is right up there with climate change as the biggest, most complex problems facing governments worldwide. U.S. President Barack Obama, right, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have both highlighted inequality, a key issue in the U.S. election campaign.
