Threat to boxing at Olympics

Khunying Patama Leesawadtrakul says the IOC Ethnics Commission is demanding that the world governing body of amateur boxing, AIBA, clarifies some of their dealings, especially in relation to financial issues. She said the IOC had already suspended its support for AIBA and had given the organisation until August 30 to submit evidence they were operating in a transparent and acceptable way. "The IOC might reconsider having boxing in the Tokyo Olympics or even the Youth Olympics in Bueno Aires this year,” Pattama said. The AIBA is said to have internal problems and Olympic judges have often been the subject of accusations following controversial decision in past Olympics. Nevertheless, losing boxing would be a major blow to the 0lympic movement.
