On September 24, 2017, a Trump tweet warned that the North Korean leadership would not “be around much longer” if they continued their rhetoric. The most recent move from the US was a new show of superior military force aimed at North Korea. China’s engagementConsistently, China was an ally of North Korea during the Korean War (1950-1953) and remains its treaty ally. The threat of a military confrontation, however, makes China rethink its resistance to discussing contingencies involving North Korea. Curiously, North Korea has said in public statements in the past that it wants an official end to the Korean War.
