The New Zealand Transport Agency's latest figures show one Kiwi driver took 13 attempts to pass their full driver's licence test. Almost 10,000 people who received their full driver's licence in 2016 had failed at least once, four of them failed ten or more times. Former licence testing officer Zane Kirk said failed attempts often came down to complacency among restricted drivers, who were over-confident about their level of experience on the road. A full driver's licence is acquired after sitting a practical test with an an approved driver testing officer. Wellington driver testing officer Mohammed Harooj said most people who failed their test were surprised, but often had not prepared enough.
