Thousands of PIP claimants face 10-year wait for pay rise in gruelling DWP backlog


Tens of thousands of claimants of the Personal Independence Payment could face an agonising wait of up to a decade for their awards to be reviewed and potentially uplifted. According to Benefits and Work, currently, a whopping 74,000 claimants are on lower PIP than they should be receiving. Unfortunately, they face almost ten years of waiting for their award to be reviewed and increased - there are 392,000 outstanding PIP reviews in England and Wales. An eye-opening Freedom of Information request found out that the DWP could only make a small dent in the backlog. In the FOI response, a department spokesperson acknowledged: "The main reason for the length of time to complete PIP award reviews is very high demand for PIP.
