People from different parts of the country travelled to the district for the last rites of Moniruzzaman Siraji, who was also the principal of Bhadghor Jamia Sirajia Darul Ulum Madrasah of Brahmanbaria. The 91-year-old, known as 'Boro Huzur', was the president of Hefazat-e Islam's Brahmanbaria district unit. He breathed his last at his residence in Bhrahmanbaria's Bhadughor on Sunday afternoon. Local media, citing residents and police officials, reported that around 5,000 people attended the funeral despite a nationwide restriction on public gathering to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus .
