Trent Thornton had a smashing debut for the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers came away with a two-game split of this season-opening series despite scoring only six runs. Urena had three of his team’s seven hits, but was thrown out at the plate in the bottom of the 10th. Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo had placed moderate expectations on the rookie Thornton before the game. AROUND THE BASESRegular catcher Danny Jansen got a rare start in the leadoff hole because Montoyo said he had hit Moore well in the past.
