Thornhill school probed for possible norovirus outbreak

There has been a possible outbreak of the norovirus at Thornhill Woods Public School. “At this time we are investigating a potential outbreak at Thornhill Woods Public School but we can’t confirm as of yet and we can’t confirm that any other schools have been affected,” Kylie-Anne Doerner, corporate communications advisor for the Regional Municipality of York, said. The norovirus is an enteric virus, according to Doerner, and it’s “a fairly short duration, quick recovery illness.” Its symptoms include vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. “It’s fairly common in winter months and quite easily spread from person to person,” Doerner said. The letters also reminded parents to reinforce hand washing and to keep their children at home if they are feeling ill.
