The French president, Emmanuel Macron, has taken to the airwaves to tackle the chaos that has gripped the streets of France. He offered concessions in a bid to quell the protests but also condemned violence. Over the last few weeks, anti-government protesters have fought police, throwing missiles, torching cars and looting shops.
