As of Tuesday, older models running BlackBerry 10.7.1 operating systems and earlier will no longer be supported by the company. It marks a significant service shutdown since the company abandoned the consumer phone game in 2016 when its active user count tumbled to about 23 million. Before BlackBerry became the obsolete cellphone left at the backs of drawers, it enjoyed a meteoric rise in the consumer phone scene. One of these devices was the BlackBerry 850 pager, given the name because its keyboard buttons resembled blackberry drupelets. This move found the company some success in the enterprise security market, but its day in the sun was over.
