Valentine’s Day proved to be a socially distanced affair this year with national Covid-19 restrictions still in place. We uncovered some amusing and emotive images as we searched our archives for images themed around love and public displays of affection. In 1983 Sally Soames was en route to photograph imagery of the impending general election when she encountered young lovers on the platform at Bournemouth train station. The ingenuity of the press photographer once more on display, camera in hand, documenting anything that catches her eye. By the time she clicks the shutter on the last frame she appears to have attracted the attention of the youngsters.
