Mother Earth DayWomen have always been central to the environmental justice movement. In many parts of the world, women live closest to the earth and must deal with the effects of environmental degredation due to industry and/or climate change. Women are essential agents of change in their communities to increase the resilience of their environments, as well as to mitigate and confront environmental degradation and climate change. The environmental movement is therefore intimately tied to the movement for women’s rights and with work towards peace. In celebration of Earth Day, we're celebrating sixteen incredible women who are working to protect the environment and all of the creatures which share our planet.
