This Passover We Celebrate… Superman?

In 1978, Maggin was tapped to write the novel Superman: Last Son of Krypton , a promotional tie-in to Superman: The Movie, followed by Superman: Miracle Monday in 1981 for Superman II. She learns that Miracle Monday commemorates the day Superman saved humanity from no less than Samael, the ruler of hell. Samael’s attempts to corrupt Superman mirror the Temptations of Jesus , and Superman outwitting him parallels the ransom theory of atonement . It also evokes Passover, which is held “in the month of the spring” (Exodus 23:15), bringing things full circle quite nicely—the Last Supper was (probably) a Passover Seder, after all. In Superman #400, it seems pretty clear that Miracle Monday is based on Passover.
