The audience moves between locations, led by cast members and volunteer ushers, mostly on foot and sometimes on city buses. The amplification was out of sync on many of the second-act numbers so that the audience heard the performers’ voices twice. There is some evidence of these ideas in the opening numbers, with the attention of a travelling salesman and local kids pulled between the live action and their phones and tablets. As the show runs on, delays in transporting audiences numbering as many as 100 around locations are likely to tighten up. Integrating non-professional performers into this production was a new initiative for TIFT, a professional theatre company celebrating its 15th anniversary this year in Barrie.
