WASHINGTON ― Donald Trump thinks climate change is a “bullshit” “hoax.” Now the president-elect gets to guide United States’ climate policy. No one bothered to ask the candidates about climate change at the debates, despite the fact that it’s the most pressing environmental issue of our time ― and arguably the most important economic, social and national security issue, too. Trump didn’t talk about climate policy much at all as a candidate. He named prominent climate change denier Myron Ebell of the Competitive Enterprise Institute to lead his transition work at the Environmental Protection Agency and fossil fuel lobbyist Mike McKenna for the Department of Energy. And the previous climate pact, the Kyoto Protocol, failed to meaningfully address climate change because the United States backed out.
