From Graceland to Beale Street, you can now add student loan repayment to the long list of attractions that Memphis, Tennessee has to offer. Memphis is the first city in the nation to offer its city employees a student loan payment benefit through the Student Loan Reduction Program. The city is taking a page from the playbook of Corporate America, which has started a small, but growing trend of offering student loan repayment as an employee benefit. Both federal and private student loans are eligible, regardless if the employee earned a degree. The benefit applies only to the employee's student loans, and therefore cannot be used for student loans that employees borrowed on behalf of their children, for example.
