The story is set some 60 years ago, but is there anything in Ruby’s situation that you related to? I look like Ruby in a world that still experiences racism, injustice, inequality, the patriarchy and colorism. The thing I find the hardest about the show is that it does still feel so relevant. The difference is there’s a pandemic, and there’s no distraction for a lot of people. If you want the world to be better, then the world collectively has to do it.
