Thief raids safe of St Peter's Cathedral in HamiltonCHRISTEL YARDLEY/STUFF St Peter's Cathedral on Victoria Street, Hamilton, had the contents of the church safe stolen while a service was being conducted. To some people, nothing is holy - not even the contents of a locked safe inside a cathedral. As Hamilton church-goers gathered for Sunday mass and to hear the final sermon of their outgoing dean last Sunday, a thief snuck in the back and plundered the safe's contents. The theft of $2500 and two raffle books has left the Waikato Cathedral Church of St Peter's fundraisers out of pocket and without records of ticket holders for the Christmas Eve raffle draw. He located the keys in the room, opened the safe and took its contents - $2500 cash, plus cheque and raffle books.
