Kota Shivaram Karanth, described as the “finest novelist-activist of modern India”, has also not been forgotten. His house, ‘Balavana’, in Puttur, Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka is now a memorial maintained by the government. I also understand that the building, in Dharwad, Karnataka, where D.R. Bendre, Jnanpith awardee in Kannada, and his friends used to meet is also a memorial.
