These firefighters ordered a payout at McDonald's and got arrested instead

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Prosecutors on Tuesday pressed charges against a couple for allegedly abusing their power as firefighters when pressing a claim for compensation from McDonald's. On March 30, Tsai Yi-lang and his wife Huang Ying-hui brought their son to a McDonald's in New Taipei, where he slipped and fractured his arm. Tsai and Huang, who are firefighters, presented themselves as such to the store manager and insisted that McDonald's carried responsibility for their son's injury. The couple met with representatives from McDonald's on five occasions to negotiate. The couple later lowered their demand to NT$60 million (with NT$5 million payable by McDonald's vouchers), though not before authorities from Taoyuan, Taipei, New Taipei, Pingtung, Hualien and Taitung began investigating McDonald's over the reported violations.
