Photo: DPAThe German economy grew by a healthy 1.9 percent in 2016, as the motor of the European economy purred along. So statistics published by the state statistics office in North Rhine-Westphalia on Thursday made for surprising reading. This map from Statista shows the GDP growth of each state in Germany in 2016. Brandenburg and Thuringia recorded growth of 1.7 percent and 1.8 percent respectively, in line with the national average.
