Thanks to China, soybeans became a top 10 U.S. export in 2016 for the first time in at least two decades. 1 U.S. market for soybean exports every year this decade. Soybean exports to China increased $3.68 billion in 2016 from the previous year, an amount equal to more than 92 percent of the total gain in those exports. That is not to suggest that the United States' trade with China is not horribly imbalanced. For every dollar of trade with China, 20 cents is a U.S. export.
