Theresa May vows to carry on despite plot to oust her

Theresa May, arriving for a Macmillan Cancer charity coffee event in Reading today, said she is providing "calm leadership" PATheresa May insisted she would provide “calm leadership” as prime minister after a former Conservative Party chairman went public in a plot to oust her from Downing Street. In her first public appearance since her disastrous conference speech on Wednesday, Mrs May insisted she had the “full support” of her cabinet. Earlier, angry MPs insisted the plot to remove Mrs May would “fizzle out” as they rallied round the prime minister. Grant Shapps, first identified by The Times as the ringleader of the plot, claimed that his desire for a leadership contest was backed by a “broad spread” of his colleagues. But arriving for a charity coffee morning in her Maidenhead constituency, the prime minister was determined to present an image of business as normal.
