Downing Street’s vale of tears has devoured another of the striders and strutters. At 10.10am Theresa May approached the end of her resignation announcement and it all proved too much for her. Her composure started to fray when she said that “I will shortly leave the job it has been the honour of my life to hold”. On the word “hold” the left of her mouth sagged, as can happen with a not-quite fully set egg mousse. You know how it is: one small flaw and in seconds you have a terrible slippage.
